From House of Balloons to the Alamodome: Photographing The Weeknd
I first discovered The Weeknd back in 2011 with House of Balloons. The way Abel sampled artists like Beach House and Siouxsie and the Banshees immediately pulled me in, it was dark, eclectic, and atmospheric and I honestly believe it was one of the most influential albums in the world of R&B at that time. While I only loosely followed his career in the years that followed, I always admired the way he pushed boundaries and created entire worlds within his music.
So with that said, to be standing in the Alamodome years later, photographing his set, felt super surreal, a moment that will stay with me forever. I was super bummed with the photography arrangement, just off the side of the catwalk, close to the main stage. I thought the angle was weird but surprisingly the photos came out great. It was also super cool of Canon to give me a shoutout on my Instagram post, now if I can only get them to start sending me some gear to review. Enjoy the gallery.
